“die werkstatt”

In the Division of Design and Fine Arts, “die werkstatt” is the contact point for technical questions. The employees assist in the handling of paper, wood, plastic, metal and textiles and organise the rental of small machines and tools.

Printing Studio

The Printing Studio is the competence and service centre at HKB for manual printing techniques. The employees of the printing studio offer courses on screen-printing, gravure printing and letterpress and support students with their projects.

MediaLab

The competence centre for audio-visual design is the MediaLab. A wide range of facilities are available here for the realisation of projects – video, audio, light, encoding, DVD and projection/display. You must take an introductory course at the beginning of your studies to use and borrow materials.

Sound Studio

Students in the Sound Arts degree programme have at their disposal a sound studio equipped with the latest audio technology. From recording to editing, mixing and mastering – anything is possible here. The studio has a multipurpose room that can be used for small events, performances, film/ video presentations or interactive installations.

Conservation and restoration labs and studios

The Conservation and Restoration Division is equipped with specialised studios and laboratories for manual work on original artworks and research. The highly specialised studios offer the necessary infrastructure and equipment to carry out scientifically advanced work as well as traditional craftsmanship.

Material Archive S8

The material archive is an educational network for teaching, research and practice. Eight institutions run this project. The focus is on networking, bringing the physical material collections of the individual institutions together in a publicly accessible online database.

Libraries

HKB has four libraries on the Bern and Biel/Bienne campuses. The BFHcard serves as a library card.

KULT

KULT organises and coordinates performances for students at HKB. Starting as early as their first semester, instrumentalists, singers from the classical or jazz programmes, DJs or DJanes, and actors can already gain paid performance experience at a wide range of private and public events. In the process, they can gather ideas for their own artistic profile and benefit from practical career input from customers, organisers, companies and institutions.

Cabane B

Cabane B is an art exhibition space near the train station Bümpliz Nord. Every six months, HKB produces a programme with changing exhibitions.
